It's just amazing how many people are at the airport at 4:30 a.m. "A.M." as in the morning. Boy oh boy. But here we are, getting ready to check in for our flight to Denver. We are spending a week working on a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance project in Loveland, Colorado.
Imagine our disappointment. The classic PDX photo is the foot shot, taking in the old PDX carpet. All we could find was the new stuff. But to make up for it, we took this as an opportunity to show off our new toenail polish.
After arriving in Loveland Saturday afternoon, we settled in at Mountain View Presbyterian Church (MVPC). This congregation has, as one of its missions, a heart for providing housing for mission groups like ours. This means we have very comfortable accommodations--bunkbeds with real mattresses and sheets, showers, a fabulous kitched faciliy. Twelve of us living, working, eating, praying together.
It turns out, MVPC is a huge church. After our first night here, we decided that the footprint for this buildiing is as big as Springwater's acres (including church, manse, outdoor worship, labyrinth, gardens, and parking lot). Immense.
The congregation is so welcominig and generous. We worshiped with them Sunday morning. Doughnuts before and after worship! They invited our youth group to join them for their evening meeting. More about that later from Jennifer.
Meanwhile, this photo is of Jennifer's birthday cake, because of course, since it's a mssion trip, it's Jennifer's birthday.
The Shovel Puppies at work. Half of us stayed in Loveland to remove staples from wood flooring, donated by a church that moved from its old facility. We're hoping to be part of installing this in the house we're working on.
Because here we are, helping raise this house to be above the flood plain for the Big Thompson River.
Uh oh. Supper time. Deb, Kathy, Mary have been cooking us the ost fabulous food. Don't want to be late for the cooks!
